The Salt Lake Olympic Committee has announced that Bruce Rader from Virginia Beach, Virginia will have the prestigious honor of carrying the Olympic Flame. The Salt Lake 2002 Olympic Torch Relay will begin December 4th, 2001 in Atlanta, Georgia, the last place the Olympic Flame rested on U.S. soil. Along its travels, the Salt Lake 2002 Olympic Torch Relay, presented by Coca-Cola and Chevrolet, will celebrate and showcase the inspirational fire found within communities across America.

As one of the Inspirational Torchbearers, Mr. Rader will play an important role in this magical journey of the Flame across America. The Olympic Flame will travel more than 13,500 miles and pass through 46 U.S. states in 65 days. In addition to torchbearers, the Olympic Flame will be transported by automobile, airplane, train, ship, skier, horse-drawn sleigh, snowmobile, ice skater, covered wagon and other unique modes. The opportunity of carrying the Olympic Flame is a memory that will be shared for years to come.

This is the second time Mr. Rader has been honored to run the Olympic Flame. He carried the Torch in Charlotsville, Virginia prior to the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia.

Mr. Rader has been selected to carry the flame because of his Inspirational Spirit that has touched the community around him. The Salt Lake 2002 Olympic Torch Relay is an international event that has global significance. We will be traveling through 46 states in 65 days. The route has been designed to showcase as much of America as possible within the timeframe that we have to conduct the Relay. One of the primary Olympic Ideals is to unify nations, cultures and communities. This is Mr. Rader's chance to help spread the Olympic Spirit throughout this country.

On behalf of SLOC, The Coca-Cola Company and Chevrolet, we congratulate Mr. Bruce Rader on being selected. His torchbearer position is a unique honor that is experienced by only a chosen few. We look forward to him being an important part of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
